More Rain, More Fish

Posted 14 Nov 2007 - 10:54am

With Thanksgiving Day right around the corner, it's time to diversify.  After 2 weeks with little to no rain, we finally had a squirt and have more rain in the prediction.  Hardcore steelheaders kick into gear this time of year.  Some winter steelhead have already been landed on the Umpqua, and no doubt more will follow in the coming months.  Bright Chinook continue to push through the tidal and free-flowing sections of the Siuslaw River and Lake Creek.  The numbers are far less than spectacular, but on any given day a gal or guy might just " Get Lucky" independent of big tides and rain.  Sporadic good reports continue to come in from folks testing the Siuslaw System.   I'm headed down south tomorrow to start my guiding on the Elk and the Sixes Rivers near Port Orford.  There hasn't been enough rain to make for decent boating yet down there, but that will change very soon given the forecast.  The commercial fleet working the the mouth of the Elk River has had some spectacular days recently giving hope to the recreational fishermen.  Let's hope the commercial guys left us a few!  Just to the south, the Chetco has been kicking out some nice bright fish.
