Warm Weather & Warmer River Temperatures Bringing More Fish
Submitted by John Gross on 28 May 2009 - 10:45am.
Recent warmer river temperatures have increasingly better numbers of Spring Chinook and Summer Steelhead now on the move returning to their natal river, the McKenzie. Yesterday I got together with a couple old guide buddies with whom I worked over 10 years ago at a lodge in Alaska. We did a quick morning fish on the McKenzie, exchanging stories new and old, reminiscing and catching up. It was great fun. We missed a few biters and released a couple native salmon to head on up to their spawning grounds. Daily counts of salmon crossing over Willamette Falls suggest that fishing should be pretty consistent by early June. Daily counts of migrating Summer Steelhead are also solid ranging between 100-200 fish per day. |
