Salmon fishing still producing good results on Oregon's majestic McKenzie River

Jim and Chuck double up on McKenzie River Summer Steelhead

We continued to have great results this past week on our McKenzie River salmon/steelhead trips. With a significant reduction in the river level, fishing is an increasing challenge, but with persistence and adjustments to presentation and location, good results are still possible. We continued to see some nice limits and Summer Steelhead are now making a better showing than in previous weeks. The number of Summer Steelhead to have now entered the Willamette System has increased to about 50% of the Spring Chinook numbers with Summer Steelhead at about 10,000 and adult Salmon at about 20,000. Though these numbers represent a mere fraction of what we see in a "good year," an increased effort is prodcing very respectable results. With a two salmon daily retention allowance, it's hard to complain given last season's complete salmon retention closure.
