Big & Bright and Full of Fight - Fall Chinook are on the Bite
Submitted by John Gross on 1 August 2009 - 2:59pm.
Folks are now directing their attention to the coast where hot silver salmon action is easilly had just outside the river mouths. Soon salmon will be venturing into our estuaries as they stage for the fall run. Already some spots are reporting hot action on Fall Chromers. The lower Rogue is producing some nice catches already. By September, expect some good action on Coho in numerous estuaries including Coos Bay, Winchester Bay, and possibly the lower Coquille. A phenominal run of silvers is predicted to enter the Columbia River soon. Biologists have forecasted over 1 million Coho to pass Buoy 10 enroute to upriver destinations. Summer steelhead numbers moving past Bonneville Dam on The Columbia have topped out at more than 10,000 per day! |
