High Water - Low Water

Posted 7 Feb 2007 - 6:29am

Instead of having a nice moderate winter with average river levels, we have gone from super high water in December to super low levels accompanied with ice cold temperatures in January. Early February will hopefully bring us the change we are looking for. Warmer temperatures and precipitation are forecasted. In spite of generally difficult conditions, there was an interval of excellent fishing during the short transitional period several weeks ago. There were stellar reports coming in up and down the coast on many different systems including the Chetco (BIG FISH), the Rogue, The Coquille, the Siuslaw, Nestucca, and Wilson just to name a few. We are hoping to see a return to that situation this coming week as the rain comes in. The Umpqua system has been producing some nice fish during the latest low-water period. I'm sure the bite would have been even better with warmer water temperatures. A sincere apology is in order to regular readers of my fishing report page. Today's report is the first report I have been able to post since early last August. Last year I paid an obscene amount of money to a company called MainStreetHost.com. They were going to host, renovate, and update my Web site. They also were going to insure excellent placement on the various top level search engines. Fact of the matter is, I have poor placement, very little traffic, and have been unable place a fishing report for 6 months in spite of umpteen calls and emails. Suffice to say, "Lesson Learned, Buyer Beware."
