FISHING REPORT Aug 1, 2010

Large numbers of good-sized Coho have been reported staging off the mouth of the Columbia. This bodes well for the famed Buoy 10 fishery which just got underway on August 1st. Fall Chinook fishing at the mouth of the Rogue in Gold Beach saw some good days and some slow days this past week. Further south, ocean bottom fishing out of Brookings Harbor remains excellent. Regular limits of Kokanee continue to be reported by trollers working Green Peter Reservoir. The lion's share of a late surge of Springers that crossed Willamette Falls during the first 2 weeks of July is believed to have arrived in the North Santiam. Still a few continue to filter into the Middle Fork Willamette and the McKenzie. Folks intent on harvesting a hatchery salmon now locally, will do well to exercise selectivity. The Town Run on the Willamette is still producing a few steelhead, but fishing regulars are reporting the catch rate as slow to fair. Elk Hair Caddis are among the top producers for fly anglers casting dries on the McKenzie and upper Willamette.
