In spite of low water conditions we had a great day yesterday on the Siletz. Blue skies from start to finish didn't hurt program at all. We got into four Chinook, landing three of them. Most folks were soaking bait under floats while we found our greatest success on plastic. All our fish were good size slabs, with the largest right around 30lbs. A slightly smaller fish really had us all guessing. It was an epic battle, where the beast refused to give in. All three of us onboard took turns, while sore arms rested. The fish seemed to just take line at will as it pulled us down river. If I dropped an anchor, the reel spool would get dangerously low. When we finally saw it, I was surprised that it was neither foul-hooked nor the 40lb monster we had assumed, but rather a chrome-bright, spirited wench with a will of her own!
