Winter Chrome on the Umpqua
Submitted by John Gross on 29 January 2005 - 7:55am.
Umpqua River (Mainstream) | Umpqua River (North Fork) | Winter Steelhead
After a long holiday away and many moons of silence I am happy to report that the Main Stem and both Forks of the Umpqua are all kicking out some awesome fish. Side-drifting, plugs and jigs are all contributing to some great days on the Umpqua. The highest percentage of "clippers" (hatchery winter steelhead) are found in the South Fork. But they have to swim the mainstem to reach the South Fork. Currently, river levels are excellent for running the Main Stem Umpqua which is often too high and muddy this time of year for good drift-fishing. |
