Fall Brutes
Submitted by John Gross on 1 November 2004 - 7:55am.
Last week we had dropping river levels after rains from the prior week. I was guiding up on the Siletz River close to the town of Siletz near Newport Oregon. We worked the edge of tide with the sled boat and had great success each day....multiple hook-ups, big chrome-brightfish including a 40lber. The guests I fished on the last day found these brutes to be a bit more of a challenge than the smallmouth bass we had fished for last year on their Umpqua trip. They did indeed boat some real beasts, though numerous fish found enough submerged wood to provide for easy escape. We definitely left plenty "for seed." If rain and corresponding river levels cooperate, I will be headed down to the Elk and Sixes Rivers near Port Orford next week to chase those huge Winter Wonders of Oregon's south coast. |
