Still on the Lookie for Mr. Nookie

Posted 6 Jul 2006 - 8:15pm

We ran 3 McKenzie trips this past week lookin' for Nookie. We were rewarded each day. Thanks to continued cool water temperature, the fish are still in good shape, even though July is considered by many to be the tail end of the season. The Mckenzie is scheduled to close to Chinook fishing on Aug 15th. We won't pack the salmon rods away yet as we were encouraged by landing 10 Springers and missing an almost equal amount over those 3 days. For a change of pace we did a quick morning run on the Middle Fork Willamette yesterday. By 10:30am takeout we had landed a couple nice steelhead and lost another. Numerous feisty Cutthroat and Redsides had grabbed our flies as well.
