This summer season has proved very productive for summer steelhead on the entire Willlamette system.  Though I guided predominantly on my home river, the McKenzie, my trips over to the South Santiam and the Middle Fork Willamette also produced fish.  Last Tuesday we headed over to the Willamette.  While we dabbled with plugs and spinners, it was the flies that got all the action.  We found 3 willing steelhead to slam our bunny strips.  Of the three, we landed two.  With the low water conditions prevailing, small presentations like flies are now the way to go.
