WINTER STEELHEAD

Suislaw Winter Steelhead

I am finally in the middle of getting some progam updates on the web site that have precluded any recent report entries. My apologies. We had good reports coming in from the Siuslaw, Siletz, Elk/Sixes,& SF Coquille rivers just before the rains. The day we went over to the Siuslaw we found pretty crowded conditions on the lower river where the fish were definitel concentrated. It was no secret that the fish were there. We squeezed in for a sampling and were rewarded. After the rains, I hit the Siletz with high hopes. The weekend warriors were out in full force with about 17 rigs parked at the launch. Scenery was awesome, but the catching did not meet expectations. We only managed one 6 pound hatchery steelhead in the net. In comparing notes with all the other boats along the way and at the take out, zero or 1 fish seemed the norm. We could only surmise that the earlier fish had all shot up above us into the Gorge, and new arrivals were still on the way. There really should be some great fihing the next few days on many systems.

I am headed south in a few days and will be available for trips on the Elk, the Sixes and the South Fork of the Coquille through March. All thes rivers have some great opportunites for Winter Steelhead. Trips on the Siuslaw and Siletz are other options as well with a little notice.
