Story from Roaring Fork Guide Service

Just Add Water

We finally got a sorely needed dash of rain just over a week ago. It was enough to justify running a few trips over on the coast for late arriving winter steelhead. The fish gods cooperated and provided some fun days for us over on the Siletz, Elk-Sixes, and the Coquille. By Easter, heavenly spigots were on full blast and most of our rivers were running high and muddy. I was really fortunate to have squeezed those trips into a very short window of opportunity. On March 31st, many of the coastal rivers will close to winter-steelheading and lots of us in the Willamette Valley will be prepping for our wonderful run of Spring Chinook and Summer Steelhead already nosing their way into the system. Springer Fishing on the McKenzie last year was nothing short of phenomenal. I expect to find fish during April and be well-into them by mid to late May. The Spring Chinook/Summer Steelhead combo trips on the McKenzie, South Santiam, and Middle Fork Willamette are a lot fun and often very productive. These trips are well worth booking and can provide some incredible BBQ fish. Give me call: (541) 726-7234
